Do you wish there was a way to reduce your dental anxiety? If so, our Oak Park Dentistry team is thrilled to grant your wish! There are many things you can do to finally feel more comfortable in the dental chair, and those things are:

-Tell us your fears and worries. If we know about your feelings, we will be able to alter your treatment so you can feel more comfortable and safe in the hands of the dentist.

-Focus on your breathing while you receive treatment. Try to breathe slowly and regularly. Oftentimes, it’s normal to hold your breath when you’re nervous, but when you hold your breath, your oxygen levels decrease and your panic increases. So the best thing you can do is take slow, deep breaths when you are at our office.

-If the sounds of dental tools bother you, it’s best to bring a portable audio player with you to your appointment. Then, you can listen to music and you won’t hear the tools that are improving your oral health.

-Avoid drinking caffeine before your appointment. Caffeine tends to increase your heart rate and make your anxiety worse.

-Try to eat protein-rich foods before your visit. These products produce a calming effect and they help reduce anxiety and nervousness.
